Sub-Zero Repair Specialists

If you own a Sub-Zero, you bought it for a reason — they last 20+ years if maintained properly. We're the techs who keep them running for that long instead of pushing replacement at year 12.

Why Sub-Zero Is Its Own Specialty

A Sub-Zero refrigerator is a fundamentally different machine from a Whirlpool or a GE. Dual sealed systems (separate compressors for the fridge and freezer compartments), magnetic door seals you can replace without replacing the whole door, vacuum-formed evaporators rated for 25 years of duty cycle. The build quality is real — but so is the complexity.

When something goes wrong on a Sub-Zero, you don’t want a generalist. You want someone who:

  • Has the Sub-Zero diagnostic procedures memorized for each platform
  • Stocks Sub-Zero OEM parts (we don’t use aftermarket on these)
  • Has factory training on the 548/550, 600, 700, BI, IC/IT/IW, ICBI, and 36" Designer series
  • Knows when a fault code is real versus when the unit needs a hard reset
  • Understands the difference between a recoverable repair and a sealed-system terminal failure — and won’t waste your money on the latter

That’s us.

Platforms We Service

Built-In Series (BI / 600 / 700)

The classic 36"/42"/48" built-ins that have been in Valley homes since the early 90s. We work on every revision. The most common service we do on these: evaporator fan replacement, defrost system service, ice maker rebuild, door seal replacement, and the BI-series specific drain heater wire that breaks at year 8-10.

Designer / Integrated Series (IC / IT / IW columns)

The integrated column refrigerator and freezer pairs that hide behind cabinet panels. Service on these is harder because the panels need to come off carefully — we have the right tools and the right patience. Common repairs: defrost issues, sealed system diagnostics, ice maker module replacement.

36" Pro / Pro 48

The pro-style stainless built-ins. Same internals as the standard built-ins, different exterior trim. Same service approach.

Wine Coolers (424, 427, 715, 315, 424FS)

Single-zone and dual-zone, built-in and freestanding. The wine cooler service we do most often: temperature control board, evaporator coil cleaning, door seal, and the small condenser fan that runs constantly and burns out around year 7.

Sub-Zero Drawers (UC-15, UC-24)

Refrigerator drawers and freezer drawers. We service all of them.

What We Fix On Sub-Zeros

“Refrigerator section warming up, freezer is fine”

Almost always evaporator fan motor in the fresh-food section. About a 90-minute repair, parts on the truck.

“Both sections warming”

Could be condenser, condenser fan, or — worst case — sealed system leak. We diagnose with proper refrigerant gauges, not by guessing. If it’s a sealed-system leak on a 18+ year-old unit, we’ll tell you it’s not worth repairing and you should consider replacement. If it’s repairable, we’ll quote you honestly.

“Ice maker stopped working”

Sub-Zero ice makers are their own science. Inlet valve, ice maker module, optical sensors (on the newer units), water filter. We fix them all and we’ll show you the actual failed component.

“Compressor running constantly”

Condenser dirty (free fix — pull and clean), condenser fan failed, or sealed system overcharge from a previous botched repair. We diagnose all three.

“Front grille making a clicking/buzzing noise”

Condenser fan motor or ice maker module. Easy diagnosis once you know where the noise is coming from.

“Door won’t seal properly”

Magnetic door gasket replacement. Common at year 10-12. Available OEM, replaceable in about 90 minutes.

“Display panel weird / dead”

Main control board or temperature display board. Available OEM, in stock for the major platforms.

“Drain pan overflowing”

Defrost drain blocked, drain heater failed, or drain pan misaligned. Common, repairable.

What Sub-Zero Repairs Cost

Sub-Zero parts are genuinely expensive — that’s not us, that’s Sub-Zero pricing. Here’s what’s typical:

  • Evaporator fan replacement: $440–$580 installed
  • Door gasket replacement: $380–$520 (gasket is $200+ OEM)
  • Ice maker module: $480–$620
  • Condenser fan: $380–$480
  • Compressor replacement: $1,800–$2,400 (real cost, justified only on units under ~15 years)
  • Sealed system repair: rarely worth it on units past warranty; we’ll tell you when it isn’t
  • Defrost heater / thermostat: $320–$420
  • Service call diagnostic: $129 for Sub-Zero (waived with repair) — higher than our standard call because Sub-Zero diagnostics take longer

When We Recommend Replacement Instead

We’ll tell you to replace if:

  1. The unit is 20+ years old and needs sealed-system work (compressor, evaporator coil)
  2. The cumulative repair quote tops $2,000 on a unit older than 18 years
  3. There’s evidence of a previous sealed-system repair done badly and we’d be inheriting someone else’s problem

We’re not in the business of selling you replacements — we’d rather repair if it makes sense. But pretending a 22-year-old compressor failure is worth fixing isn’t honest.

Why Owners Stay With Us For Years

A Sub-Zero is a 20-year machine if you maintain it. We do the maintenance — gasket conditioning, condenser cleaning, drain pan service, ice maker descaling — that keeps small problems from becoming big ones. Most of our Sub-Zero customers have been with us for 5+ years and call us back when their kid’s place needs a tech too.

"Sub-Zero went down on a Saturday with a packed freezer. Terry's tech rolled up in two hours, diagnosed a bad evaporator fan, had the part on the truck, and we were back running before dinner. No song and dance, no upsells. Just a guy who knows what he's doing." — Frank D., Van Nuys
